As part of its Together 250 effort, BFA offers a simple invitation, asking business leaders to write a Birthday Letter to America to their employees, members or communities strikes us as exemplifying a third side because it invites leaders to share what they are for – what America’s 250 means to them, what their company stands for, what they believe this country can be. This focuses on what they want to foster, which is likely to be unique to a specific community. As a positive mission, it offers a place to get to work, a place to build.
The invitation also allows for flexibility that suits each company’s situation. Some leaders may write just to their employees internally. Others may write to their communities and members. Interestingly enough, many chambers of commerce are opting in.
And, for those who would like to contribute to a larger sense of momentum, BFA invites leaders to share their letter and have it included in the Together 250 campaign.
As we have been exploring in our Moments of Truth workshops, taking the “third side” involves clarifying your “yesses,” as well as your “no’s.” In our mind, BFA’s invitation offers a constructive avenue for elevating our longings and our positive visions -- where we can jointly get to work building the future.
Perhaps you would like to participate!
