About

The CPR Hub is published by Third Side Strategies, a non-partisan action-oriented think tank and advisory firm that supports managers, boards, investors, advisors and others working to improve public affairs governance in today’s hyper-political environment. Amid pressure to “pick sides,” we believe it is most effective to take the “third side”—focusing on shared long-term value for business and society.

Third Side Strategies helps companies reduce risk and enable long-term value for business and society, by strengthening the governance of their public affairs. Specifically, we help companies embed Corporate Political Responsibility as a non-partisan best practice for managing a company’s external influences in a consistent, principled and prepared way, regardless of the political environment.

In addition to publishing The CPR Hub, Third Side Strategies offers:

  • Capacity-building and Consultation: High-engagement presentations, executive education and tailored consultations on how to implement its Corporate Political Responsibility (“CPR”) governance framework in ways that support your company’s strategic priorities and long-term value creation.
  • Research and Analysis: Joint projects with partners and students, to understand tangible CPR applications, assess its impacts, develop new tools and bring CPR into the business classroom.

In these polarized times, business has an incredibly important role to play in building public confidence in our constitutional democracy and its institutions. The key is not to take one side or the other, but the third side, the side of the whole country and its future. That is the aim of Third Side Strategies and the Erb Principles for Corporate Political Responsibility.”

About Third Side Strategies

Third Side Strategies (TSS) was incubated at the Erb Institute at the University of Michigan as the non-partisan Corporate Political Responsibility Taskforce (CPRT), which engaged business leaders, academics and civil society organizations to operationalize the concept of corporate political responsibility (CPR) first introduced in 2018 by then-Faculty Director Tom Lyon et al. In March, 2023, the CPRT launched the Erb Principles for Corporate Political Responsibility, with support from five leading corporations and endorsements from 42 experts and leaders from across the political spectrum.

We are a now fiscally sponsored project of Future 500, a 501(c)3 non-profit consultancy focused on “finding common ground for the common good" and are funded through private grants, individual donors, and fees from our workshops, executive education programs and consultations.

IBM is proud to have joined the Corporate Political Responsibility Taskforce and contributed to the development of these principles so that companies trying to navigate this moment can have an actionable framework to follow and so that, collectively, we can strengthen society’s trust in the ways that businesses impact policymaking.”
